The copy for the Ad is as follows:

Headline: FEEL THE HEAT!

Copy: Tiger Balm, the world’s leading analgesic remedy that works where it hurts. A name that has been trusted by generations to provide care, healing and comfort for nearly 100 years. With its unique formulation specially made with herbal ingredients which are proven safe and effective, Tiger Balm’s healing properties and soothing relief for aches and pains restore balance to modern hectic lifestyles.

Logo & Product:
TigerBalm-logo-1
TigerBalmProduct
You may use minor graphical elements like lines or dots (if relevant or needed) to aid in the expression of the headline. This is not a visually driven Ad, so do not give undue attention to the product or logo, emphasis is on the headline and copy.
Black and white Press Ad.

Newspaper: TheSun
Size: 128mm (width) x 178mm (height)
Outline around Ad: 0.5 pt stroke width

Marking Criteria: Your work will be judged on whether you have been able to express the meaning or action of the headline through your designs. The designed headline in the type expression task must showcase sensitivity and creativity in the choice of font, its arrangement, its relevancy and its suitability in context of the Ad. It must reflect and enhance the inherent meaning of the headline. You will be judged on whether you have demonstrated critical thinking and exploration, research capability, ability to chronologically document your process and reflect on your journey. This evidence must be visible in your postings in the eportfolio and your in-class process work.

Process

These are the research references that I have done

These are the process of designing the fonts

The first examples

The ad arrangement above is based on 2 fonts that I have chosen which is the Baskerville Old Face font and the Cheap Fire Font. The reason why I have chosen these fonts is due to their similarities as a font family which derives from being serif fonts which I believe gives a strong impact to the ad. The words "Feel The" is based on the Baskerville Old Face Font by not being overpowered by the "Heat" Font created using the Cheap Fire font through having longer and sharper Serifs. Whereas the "Heat" font utilizes a font that has fire effects on it to show heat followed by the image of the Tiger Balm itself beside it to give it a nice finishing to the artwork. Description and Logo were added to give the finishing touches as well. Also the "The" word is arranged as such to act as a bridge between Feel and Heat as they are the main words of the phrase.

The second examples

The ad above is based off a San-Serif font named SadFilms-Regular with additional application of vectorized fire effects to compliment the mood and feel. The arrangement is as such is to centralize the Feel and the Heat words in between together with the image provided. Thus, giving the feeling of heat around the text. The artwork is finished with text description and a logo on top.

Reflection

Experience

The experience I have gained are the research knowledge on where and what to look for especially when I am dealing with fonts that requires you to express it using the elements needed to enhance the look and feel. I have also learned how to arrange my words and images as such to tasteful viewing.

Observation

Through my observation on the advertisements that Tiger Balm has. I couldn't find much ads that are close to commercialized ads as they have used known athletes to create their ads but they may as well be unoffical posts by strangers doing their assignment on Tiger Balm as well.

Findings

Through few researches online, I managed to dig up quite a number of interesting artworks based on typography that i can apply to my artwork. There were font arrangements and graphic advertisement posters that are useful to my research. Thus, Creating my 2 artworks out of fonts I have found online and existing fonts as well.

Lecture

Last week we were on our online class because of Chinese New Year. So Mr. Vinod want us to do the 4 type of expression by using San Serif, Serif and Script on Illustrator.

Instructions:

Type expression (20%)
Task 1 (10%): Single Word Expression
Identify 4 words that describe you. You will then express typographically the meaning of these words without the aid of a visual. You are only allowed to manipulate the type to express the inherent meaning of the chosen words.
Draw two 7cm squares on an A4 graph paper using a pencil. Ensure the boxes are centered vertically and horizontally in the A4 paper. Do the same for two other sheets of paper to obtain 4 squares in total.
Draw and express you respective words. Upon approval digitize your artworks using Adobe Illustrator and print them out. Update your eportfolio throughout the task and ensure every aspect of the process is documented methodically.
Marking criteria: Your work will be judged on whether you have been able to capture the meaning or action of the chosen words through your designs. The designed words in the type expression task must showcase sensitivity in balance, proportion and composition. It must reflect the inherent meanings of the words. You will be judged on whether you have demonstrated critical thinking and exploration. This evidence must be visible in your postings in the eportfolio and your in-class process work.
Process

This 4 type expression were my first process by using A4 graph paper.

The font used is a Serif type that I have chosen to represent the strength of leadrship in this typo design. The image depicts a Leader, strong and responsible in carrying the team towards achieving designated goals.

This font used is a San Serif font which shows strength and fitness as well as dynamic outlook. The tyo design shows the letter 'y' kicking the letter 'o' into the hole which strongly represent football which is well known sport.

This font design is based on a Script font. The typo design depicts the word 'Lazy' laying down at the bottom of the box. This represents the laziness of the word itself as well as the relaxed font instead of the usual straight and clean fonts. The letter 'y' is also separated from the word to show that it is slacking form joining up with the team to from the word Lazy.

This font design is based on a cursive serif font. The layout of the typo design is based on the productivity in size that represents growth in any production line and wealth. Thus having it going upwards and growing bigger up the food chain.
Reflection:
Experience

This is my first experience by doing this work. This helps me a lot in my business especially marketing and advertising. It helps me to think outside the box. Make me become more creative.

Observation

I realized that I started know how to use the Illustrator more creatively and well. I need to improve my design become more unique and simple.

Findings

I find that this subject teach me how to become a good designer. Maybe, i will be on of it one day. Moreover, its help me to think how to market and advertise my product more creatively and effectively. The more i learn this subject, the more creative I will be.

Feedback:

The word 'Leader' was awsome that shows the meaning of the word. However, the word 'Productive have to improve which the letter 'V' more clearer and bigger. The word 'Lazy' should follow the first process rather than the final process because the final one is complicated.

Process

Since, Mr Vinod said that my design were impratical and complicated on week 2. I come with an idea to modified this design to become more flexible and solid. Moreover, I want the design look more elegant and simple.

Final design after I modified it become more elegant, solid and simple. It takes me about 2 hours to think and modified the design.

Reflection

Experience

Based on my experience by doing this design, i have to think about it almost 2 hours. Its not easy doing this by using Illustrator. Its teach me to be passion when involve in artworks.

Observation

There are few reasons why I chose this type of font in designing my name. So, I have decided to crate a rugged, sleek, solid and elegant font that represent me, my lifestyle and my own personality.

Findings

Based on the design shown, the thick and thin style reflects theversatility of how I manage my life and business. It relates to complications that can be solved by finding the balance the balance in all aspects. The font depicts stability based on my risk taking business lifestyle which I have endured over the past few months. The constuction of the font is also based on the modern buildings which now our world is currenly being shaped with. This shows that im moving foeard with the future and the stability of the font together shows that no matter what, I will endure and strive through.

Feedback

The word design look more simple, elegant and solid rather than the first design.
